Mi Shakti – Girls’ Leadership Program

Program Overview

Empowering adolescent girls in Pune and Satara to lead, advocate, and shape their communities through safe, skill-building spaces.

Mi Shakti is a girls’ leadership movement for adolescent girls in Pune and Satara. Through Girls’ Clubs, girls find safe spaces to take leadership roles, organize, learn, and take collective actions. Today, almost 5,000+ girls are building life skills, legal awareness, environmental leadership, and the confidence to speak up for their rights.

These girls stand up for their Right to Education, prevent child marriages, demand menstrual hygiene facilities, negotiate for safer public transport, and claim equal opportunities—not as beneficiaries, but as the key stakeholders. Communities—Parents, Schools, and Panchayats—now recognize them as leaders.

We are strengthening the capacities of CBOs to replicate and scale this leadership model across Maharashtra – our Gateway of India, so lakhs of adolescent girls can rise, influence systems, and shape the future—on their own terms.
